Forest Tunnel 2011
Medium: Wood Engraving
Paper: white kozo
Image Size: 10x10cm (aprox)
This print was created while Artist in Residence in Northern California at the JB Blunk Residency. It was hand printed on a thin Japanese kozo paper. I did a great deal of walking in the forests surrounding JB's house while I was there. A lot of it was thick with regrowth after a big fire years before, and I noticed the way the vegetation formed these visual tunells where the track entered the thickets. Many of my works are in one way or another to do with portals and holes and dark mysterious spaces in nature, and that's all quite clear in this piece.
