California Vista by Peter McLean

California Vista  2011

Medium: Wood Engraving

Paper: white kozo

Image Size: 10x10cm (aprox)

This print was created while Artist in Residence in Northern California at the JB Blunk Residency.  It was hand printed on a thin Japanese kozo paper.  Whilst on the residency I became interested in the history of romantic landscape painting in California and the role this played in the creation of the early conservation and National Parks movements.  California Vista incorporates these ideas while also depicting the view from Barnaby Peak in the Samual P Taylor State Park, looking past Black Mountain towards JB's house on the flanks of the Vision range in the far distance.
