I made Island while I was on an artist residency in Fiskars Village, Finland.  I spent much of my time walking in the forests surrounding the village and investigating the many lakes.  On the map, a few of the lakes formed an eye shape, and one of these contained this tiny island, and so the image itself became like an eye, the lake's eye looking out at us.
